Βραβεία ΕΜΜΥ: 26 υποψηφιότητες για «Watchmen» και ιστορικό-ρεκόρ του Netflix

Την χρονιά του covid, η μικρή οθόνη και οι πρόσφατες παραγωγές της, αποτέλεσαν την πιο σίγουρη ψυχαγωγία για τους θεατές του παγκόσμιου lockdown. Τιμώντας την δημιουργική «χρυσή εποχή» του μέσου, η Αμερικανική Ακαδημία Τηλεόρασης ανακοίνωσε τις υποψηφιότητες της 72ης Απονομής των βραβείων ΕΜΜΥ σημειώνοντας ιστορικά ρεκόρ στην μετά-«Game of Thrones» περίοδο.

Ο «πόλεμος» HBO και Netflix έληξε για δεύτερη συνεχόμενη χρονιά με νικητή την streaming πλατφόρμα στο μέτωπο των υποψηφιοτήτων (για τα βραβεία θα μάθουμε τον Σεπτέμβρη). Πέρσι το Netflix είχε ρίξει από την κορυφή το ΗΒΟ μετά από την πρωτοκαθεδρία 17 χρόνων. Φέτος το Netflix συγκέντρωσε 160 υποψηφιότητες συνολικά (ιστορικό ρεκόρ για οποιοδήποτε «δίκτυο») απέναντι στις 107 του συνδρομητικού HBO. 

Η τολμηρή, θαρραλέα νέα ανάγνωση του Ντέιμον Λίντελοφ στους «Watchmen», σειρά που βασίστηκε χαλαρά στο ομώνυμο graphic novel των Άλαν Μουρ, Ντέιβιντ Γκίμπονς, συγκέντρωσε 26 υποψηφιότητες, τις περισσότερες από οποιαδήποτε άλλη, μεταξύ των οποίων Καλύτερης Μίνι-σειράς, τρεις υποψηφιότητες για Σκηνοθεσία, έξι υποψηφιότητες Ερμηνειών (Τζέρεμι Άιρονς, Ρετζίνα Κινγκ, Γιαχία Αμπντούλ-Ματίν Β', Τζιν Σμαρτ κ.α.) Σεναρίου. Από κοντά η κωμική, μουσική ελαφράδα του «The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel» της Amazon με 20 συνολικά υποψηφιότητες και στη συνέχεια το «Ozark» του Netflix και το «Succession» του ΗΒΟ με 18 υποψηφιότητες έκαστο.

Μία από τις πιο πολυσυζητημένες σειρές του 2019, η έκπληξη από έναν γαλαξία μακρινό, το «The Mandalorian» - πρώτη live action σειρά του αφηγηματικού σύμπαντος του «Star Wars», κέρδισε υποψηφιότητα στην μεγάλη κατηγορία της Καλύτερης Σειράς (Δράμα) και guest εμφάνισης για τον Τζιανκάρλο Εσποζίτο.

Στις τρανταχτές απουσίες από τις υποψηφιότητες αξίζει να σημειώσουμε τον Μπομπ Όντενκερκ του «Better Call Saul», το εξαιρετικά επίκαιρο, όσον αφορά τον κοινωνικό διάλογο, «Pose» του Ράιαν Μέρφι (τουλάχιστον ο περσινός νικητής Μπίλι Πόρτερ ευτυχώς είναι ξανά υποψήφιος), τον Ράσελ Κρόου στο «The Loudest Voice» και την Ριζ Γουίδερσπουν που φέτος είχε τριπλή ευκαιρία στις υποψηφιότητες ερμηνείας με τα «Big Little Lies», «Little Fires Everywhere» και «The Morning Show».

Αντίθετα, θετικές εκπλήξεις (πέρα από το «The Mandalorian») ήταν η παρουσία της ξεκαρδιστικής, βαμπιρικής σάτιρας «What We Do in the Shadows», ο τρυφερός Πολ Μέσκαλ στο «Normal People», o οσκαρούχος Μπραντ Πιτ για την guest εμφάνισή του στο Saturday Night Live ως Δρ.  Άντονι Φαούτσι και η αύξηση του ποσοστού μαύρων ηθοποιών στις κατηγορίες ερμηνειών (35 από τις 102 υποψηφιότητες).

Οικοδεσπότης της τελετής, που αναμένεται να προβληθεί στις 20 Σεπτεμβρίου 2020 από το ABC, θα είναι ο Τζίμι Κίμελ.
